EXTRA INFO.

four o'clock and it's already getting dark. solstice only a few days away. winter magic, where we kill and eat the sun to give us strength to make it through the cold.

MARKET GOODS;
come in almost every flavor you can imagine. of note is the standard six-group categorization most of the market goods fall into; ingredients/ritualistic items (angel/demon body parts, blood, daggers, chalices, candles, books, tarot cards), collectors items (rare angel/demon body parts, old books, unique weapons), vials, objects, weapons and services.

vials usually contain powers or abilities, and known colloquially as gems; the better the cut, the longer the longevity. some last for minutes or hours, others even days, but they are never, ever permanent. the market’s standard policy is to advise the usage of one power at a time, keeping to the stated dose at the stated intervals. it is, of course, possible to consume two (or more) elixirs at the same time and have two abilities at your disposal. a common, safe mix is use speed and invisibility, consumed at a 2:1 ratio. however, some combinations are incompatible and can yield lethal results -- pyrokinesis and telekinesis, for example, commonly results in spontaneous combustion of the more ambitious market-goers. the market and its staff may not enforce its policy, but it is in your best interests to use the vials only as directed.

enchanted objects, however, are a different kettle of fish. most objects available at the market function similarly to vials/gems; rings/amulets/necklaces, 'rabbit's foot' or other types of 'good luck charms'. enchanted accessories and pieces of clothing are much more expensive than vials and are usually weaker and/or more difficult to control, but theoretically they will last an eternity as long as they are maintained properly and remain intact. it’s not uncommon, however, for the market to -- sometimes literally -- charge an arm and a leg.

while no violence is sanctioned at the market grounds, and is largely considered a neutral space, there are stalls that sell both weapons (especially those to counter angels, demons and other immortals) as well as offensive and defensive services. services, in this case, can range from anything from prostitution to elimination; diviners, psychic mediums, exorcists, miracle healers, whoever and anyone you might be looking for.

FACTIONS;
MERCHANTS are descendents from the original founding families that set up shop at the market. they aren’t related to one another and will likely have no more than one from each representing family. all of them would be market-goers with either extremely strong enchantments or occultists born with gifts. ANGELS AND DEMONS are, of course, as they read on the tin: the only thing to remember is that they are active agents who choreograph and manipulate the set-up of events (though not the events themselves) to tip the scales onto their favored side. (think constantine: the movie.) OCCULTISTS are this verse’s general magic practitioners (all of whom have the ‘sight’, but not all have separate abilities/focuses/specialities themselves). a NATURAL is the slang term for someone who was born with their preternatural gift; a MUNDANE is a totally normal person. MARKET-GOERS depend on enchantments, gems or objects, to get through their supernatural days, while INHUMANS are your various other creatures, ghosts and wild beasties.
